Fire Mitigation

Fire Mitigation is a necessary step to take in your home is in a woody for forested area, like much of El Paso County. We are experienced helping homeowners properly maintain a safe boundary between their home and the potential for fire.

What does greencycle do with all those trees?

Firewood: We sell firewood, but it's in short supply , high in demand and goes quickly. We sell split, ready to burn firewood of various types for $25 per wheel barrow full. $100 will likely fill the bed of a truck.

Saw Mills and Craftsmen: Most often; we are tasked with taking down a tree that makes good firewood. On occasion we get a tree that woodworkers of all kinds enjoy working with. We try to provide these special logs to Saw Mills and craftsmen for a very low price. Personal and Family Projects: We are craftsmen too, we like taking odds and ends and fashioning them into toys for kids, structures like a tree house, outdoor furniture, many instruments and much more. The owner enjoys using various odd looking chunks of a tree in his xeriscape-themed front yard..

Stump grinding material: More often than not, after a tree is cut to the ground, the root needs to be removed as well. This is done with a machine and patience. What is leftover is a mixture of wood particles and dirt, in a hole. Some of the mixture is packed back into the whole, while the rest is prepared to be hauled away. This mixture is an excellent soil additive for many Colorado plants and is thusly offered to any green thumb or gardener. Contact the owner if you are interested in stump grinding mixture.

Mulch: Not every branch in every tree finds a purpose. Some trees are truly unwanted due to their painful thorns. So in the end, some of the material leaving your property winds up being turned to mulch at a resource facility where you can purchase it.

Approximate Costs and Receiving an Estimate

Why is it so difficult to find an approximate cost online?

Generaly a tree service profession wants to see the tree in person before putting a number on it. This is because of how many variables and factors that all impact the job. Hearing a description and seeing a jobsite in person makes all the difference.

Tree Pruning Costs

At every job; whether pruning or removing, we will ask ourselves a few questions that never change, but answers will determine the cost. Some of these questions include:

About how tall is the tree, and must I climb this tree to complete the job?
What are the hazards and how long will it take to mitigate such factors?
Are there structures or anything fragile under or around the project zone?
What type of tree is this and how healthy is it?
What prescription (i.e. what method) will the tree need? How much and what to cut.
How difficult is it going to be a remove the branches from the property?

Once all of the information pertinent to this project has been collected, an estimate of what will cost for GreenCycle to complete the task is provided at no cost.

The average cost of pruning a medium sized tree in Colorado Springs was $490, in 2022.

Tree Removal Costs

Similar to pruning a tree, any professional delivering an estimate for tree work is going to ask themselves a series of highly important questions. Many of those questions are similar or the same as pruning a tree; such as:

Size, anticipated weight of logs/branches?
Structures under or around the tree?
Must a person climb the tree - As soon as a climber gets into a tree, it is more or less an industry standard that the price increases.. Climbing a tree is a highly specialized and very dangerous activity. To do it daily takes an extreme amount of physical strength and even more mental toughness.
How far do I have to take a loaded trailer to unload it?
And several other important questions.

At GreenCycle Tree care, we not only care about removing your tree in a timely, safe and cost effective manner but we also move methodically and work carefully. We are concerned with every aspect of your property - we treat your property as if it we ours - with as much protection for your other plants and structures as possible. After the tree has been "cut to ground" and the debris has been hauled away; you must decide what to do with the stump:

Grind the stump - For an additional cost typically ranging from $25 for small stumps all the way up to $450 for large dense stumps. Usually stumps are ground down till they are 8" under the surface of the ground. Ask your service provider for additional information.
Poison the stump - if the tree was deciduous (looses its leaves in the Fall) then you will likely get shoots growing out of the stump called suckers. These suckers will continue to pop out of the stump and try to become trees until the entire stump is dead - which could take years. Many companies including GreenCycle Tree Care offer to poison the stump, again for an additional fee. Here at GreenCycle we use a woody plant herbicide as do most other companies who off this service. Just add $10.00 per stump no matter the size.
Leave a stalk or leave it alone - Some clients want us to leave the trunk at a specified height which is no problem at all. If there are any safety concerns we will advise differently. If you live in a Forested part of the Springs then perhaps you just want to tree cut flush with the ground and left alone - again this is not only possible but often times leads to us taking the price down.

The average cost of removing a medium-sized tree(20-35ft.) in Colorado Springs was $750, in 2022.

---Large trees (30-60ft typically) average around $1600 to remove.

Remember, everything that makes a service take longer - is going to add to price. To help cut costs, talk to your tree professional about ways they can make your job easier (removing a section of fence for better access, moving cars down the street, picking up garbage - are all things that MIGHT help lower cost.
